Faison - Ceness Leon “Teeny” Taylor, Jr., 90, died Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Mary Gran Nursing Center in Clinton, NC. Mr. Taylor was born July 22, 1928 in Duplin County, NC to the late Ceness Leon Taylor and Velma Mozingo Taylor.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 2, 2018 at Celestial Memorial Gardens in Vanceboro, NC. Mr. Taylor is survived by step-son, Sam H. Williams and wife, Shirley of Turkey; sister, Mary Murphy; sister-in-law, Linda Taylor of Faison; four step-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by wife, Mary W. Taylor; step- daughter, Mary Ann Matthis; brother, Samuel Taylor; and sister, Ghaynelle Garner.

Warsaw - Sue Debnam Johnson, 89, died Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Vidant Duplin Hospital. Mrs. Johnson was born July 3, 1929 in Johnston County, NC to the late Warrick Debnam and Mary Bailey Orr Debnam. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am, Friday, November 2, 2018 at Warsaw Presbyterian Church. Everyone is invited to a reception and visitation following the service at the church. Mrs. Johnson is survived by son, George McDonald Johnson, Jr. of Warsaw; daughter, Nina J. Carter of Raleigh; five grandchildren, George M. “Don” Johnson, III and wife, Lori, Charlotte Bradshaw, Michael Wade Johnson and wife, Susan, Barbara McGee and husband, Keith and Susan Carter Pendse; eighteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Box 863, Warsaw, NC 28398. Warsaw - Clarence Melvin Harris, 74, passed away Monday, October 29, 2018 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC. Mr. Harris was born September 27, 1944 to Fannie Powell Harris Montgomery and the late Clarence Peter Harris. A funeral service will be held 11:00am, Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Community Funeral Home of Warsaw, Inc., with burial to follow in Devotional Gardens, Warsaw, NC. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Warsaw - Alvis O’Neil Steven, 75, passed away Friday, October 26, 2018 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. Mr. Stevens was born August 10, 1943 in Lenoir County, NC to the late Ernie William Stevens and Ethel Cottman Stevens.

Warsaw - Willie Jackson Grady, 65, of Warsaw passed away suddenly Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Vidant Duplin. Mr. Grady was born January 29, 1953 in Lenoir County to the late Andrew Jackson Grady and Thelma Beasley Grady. A funeral service will be held 3:00pm Tuesday, October 16 at Community Funeral Home of Warsaw with burial to follow in Pinecrest Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 2:00pm at Community Funeral Home. Mr. Grady is survived by his wife, Felicia Cavenaugh Grady; son, James Seth Jackson Grady and wife, Kelly of Warsaw; daughters, Missina Grady Hardison and husband, Rodney, of Warsaw and Michele Grady of Gastonia; sister, Margaret G. Owens and husband, Johnny of Eureka; grandchildren, Samantha Hardison, Jessica “Jessi” Hardison, Kenly Hardison Ulrich and husband, Jordan, Ian Luke Grady and Chloe Elizabeth Grady; great grandchild, Kensington Monroe Ulrich, and mother-in-law, Marie Cavenaugh. Kenansville - Jean Cotton Stephens, 87, of Kenansville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at Vidant Hospice Care on October 11, 2018. A beautiful, loving and devoted wife and best friend to William (Billy) Franklin Stephens for more than 70 years, having married on Christmas day of 1948, she embraced life and inspired other to be their best. She generously gave of her time and talents to enhance the lives of others. She and her husband, W. F. (Billy) Stephens joined Grove Presbyterian Church on February 2, 1949. Mrs. Stephens was born on March 23, 1931 in Wayne County, NC to the late John and Emma Cotton. She enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, singing tenor in the choir of the Grove Presbyterian Church, sharing yard work with her husband, family beach vacations, cooking, crafts, antiques, fashion, visiting with family and friends and traveling. She retired from the Duplin County Board of Education as assistant to Superintendent O. P. Johnson and Superintendent L. S. Guy, after thirty years of dedicated service. She later worked in the payroll department for the County of Duplin for several years. After retirement, she enjoyed helping her husband at Stephens’ Hardware and Service Station and collecting antiques for their antique building located behind their home.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stephens was predeceased by her sister, Rhoda Cotton Bland and her brothers, Silas, Ed, and Harvey Cotton. She was also predeceased by her beloved chihuahua, Pee Wee, who brought her much happiness and comfort while her husband served in the military and much joy for many years after his return home. Surviving to remember her amazing legacy are her beloved husband, William Franklin “Billy” Stephens, and many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends, including Johnny Hollingsworth, Jane Rivenbark Kennedy and husband, Jimmy, Kay McArthur, Mary Bland Congleton, Gerald Bland, Connie B. Newberry, Nancy Yancey Hopkins, Steve McBride, Jean Williamson, Becky Mann, Wayne Brown, and Michael Brown. Friends were the jewels in her life and she made many lifelong genuine friend, among them special friends, Dorothy Cavenaugh, Linda Beaman and husband, Cecil, Mary Murphy and Hilda Booth. Faye Whaley was dedicated, caring, caregiver for Jean. Funeral services will be held at Grove Presbyterian Church, 611 S. Main Street, Kenansville, NC at 2:30 p. m., on Sunday, October 14, 2018. Magnolia - Ruth Poindexter Barnette Lovette, 90, of Magnolia passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018. She is survived by her three children, Jean (Randy) Bowden of Valdosta, GA, Betty (Harold)Flath of Yantis, TX and Allen Ray (Martha Kay) Barnette of Chinquapin, NC; grandsons, Billy Sekunda,CO., Mike Andreason, TX, and Brandon Flath, NM; step-grandchildren, Maria (Jamie) Dail and David (Amanda) Foy, 9 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. Funeral services will be 11a. m., Monday, October 15, 2018 in Community Funeral Home Chapel, Warsaw, NC. Visitation will be prior to the service at 10 a. m. Burial will follow at 1:00 p. m., in Riverview Memorial Park, 9332 US Hwy 117, Watha, NC. Warsaw - James Wentworth West was born the youngest of seven children in December of 1938 to the late Noah Wentworth and Lillian Steele Bennett West of Warsaw, NC. He grew up on the farm and played sports in high school and football at Wake Forest College. He also attended Mt. Olive College, and worked a few other jobs before he returned to the farm to build a life for himself and his family. James married Sandra Faye Smith in 1964 and together they had and raised three daughters and enjoyed four grandchildren.
James died Saturday, October 6, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers George Wayne West and John Bennett West, his sisters Doris West Smoke and Elizabeth West Farrior. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Smith West, daughters Deborah West Cooper, Lisa Grace West, and Karen West Shipp and husband Todd; and his four grandchildren Ethan Clark Grimmer and wife Aimee, Patrick Alexander and Mikayla Grace Shipp and Silas Alden Cooper; his sisters Edna Rae West Ryals and Ella Mae West Bason and many nieces and nephews. Visitation is scheduled for 2 pm on October 11, 2018 with service following at 3 pm. at Community Funeral Home in Warsaw, NC. Burial will follow at the Devotional Gardens. Rose Hill - Faye T. Jones, 84, passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018 in Snellville, GA. Prior to moving to Georgia, Mrs. Jones lived for many years in Kure Beach, NC.

Wanona Jane Strickland, 71, passed away October 1, 2018 at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton, NC. Miss Strickland was born December 24, 1946 in Duplin County, NC to the late E. F. Strickland and Janie Weeks Strickland.

Mr. Dail is survived by son, Kenneth Douglas Cooke and wife, Linda of Fayetteville, NC; daughters, Connie C.
