Rose Hill - Myrtle Elizabeth Exum Batts, 91, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center in Wilmington, NC. Mrs. Batts was born September 10, 1927 in Duplin County, NC to the late Roy Exum and Lucy Lee Exum.
A memorial service will be held 6:30 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2019 at Rose Hill Baptist Church in Rose Hill, NC. Visitation will follow the memorial service. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 30, 2019 in Rose Hill Cemetery, Rose Hill, NC Mrs. Batts is survived by three daughters, Gayle B. Lucas and husband, David of Watha, Kaye B. Buckner and husband, Fuzzy of Rose Hill, and Edwina B. Raynor and husband, Craig of Rose Hill. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Nicholas Buckner and wife, Tracy, Kayla Carter and husband, Brad, Joshua Buckner, Holli Jackson and husband, Dustin, Cynthia Chandler Coates and husband, Chuck, Ernie Lucas, and Davy Lucas and wife, Lee Ann and ten great grandchildren, Brevin Carter, Journey Chandler, Lucas Chandler, Jesse Lucas, Anna Townsend Carter, Roman Carter, Rebecca Jackson, MaKenzie Tate Jackson, Reese Buckner, and Nolan Buckner. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Batts was preceded in death by husband, Tom Batts; grandson, Tate Raynor, four brothers, Eugene, Clifton, Gordon, and Alton Exum. Warsaw - Gloria “Faye” Harper Avery, 73, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC. Mrs. Avery was born December 14, 1945 in Duplin County, NC to the late Zebedee Thomas Harper and Mildred Jordan Harper.
A funeral service will be held 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Community Funeral Home of Warsaw, with visitation following the service. A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 27, 2019 in Devotional Gardens. Mrs. Avery is survived by daughters, Kelia Aguilar and husband, Alfredo of Willow Springs, Sheila Baldwin and husband, Tony of Clinton, and Kelly Lee and husband, Jamie of Warsaw; brother, Charles Harper of Warsaw; sisters, Clara Hudson of Greenville and Deborah Parkhurst of Warsaw; six grandchildren, Toni Ann Gainey, Adam Baldwin, Jennifer Carter, Brianna Lee, MaKaylin Lee, and Gavin Lee; and three great grandchildren, Kennedy Baldwin, Kaison Baldwin, and Harper Gainey. Mr. Chambers was born February 18, 1932 in Duplin County, NC to the late Albert Chambers and Alice Parker Chambers.
Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Community Funeral Home of Warsaw. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel and burial will conclude the service in Devotional Gardens. Mr. Chambers is survived by his daughter, Gayle Fell and husband, Dennis of Jacksonville; granddaughter, Stacy Lynn Matthias and husband, David; great granddaughter, Serenity Matthias all of Jacksonville and sister, Dorothy Dail of Kinston. Warsaw - James Ray Scott, 73, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. Mr. Scott was born March 3, 1946 in Duplin County, NC to Durwood W. Scott and Lena Grace Phillips Scott.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a. m., Saturday, March 16, 2019 in Community Funeral Home Chapel, Warsaw, NC. Burial will follow the service in Pinecrest Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a. m. at Community Funeral Home of Warsaw, Inc. Mr. Scott is survived by sisters, Nancy Scott Williford, Dr. Shelby Scott Chadwick, and Patricia Scott Williams and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Scott was preceded in death by brother, David Scott. All service will be held at the funeral home or grave site. Warsaw - Allen Junior Griffin, 66, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC. Mr. Griffin was born March 29, 1952 in Lenoir County, NC to the late George Allen Griffin and Mable Beatrice King Griffin.
Mr. Griffin is survived by brothers, Jimmy Griffin and wife, Patricia of Turkey, NC and Willis Lee “Pee Wee” Griffin of Holly Ridge; and sister, Glenda Stancil and Doris Mercer both of Kenansville, NC. In addition to his parents, Mr. Griffin was preceded in death by wife, Kimberly Sutton Griffin; brother, Arnold “Billy” Griffin; half-brother, Bobby Floyd King; and sister, Mary Weeks.
