Magnolia-John Dave "J. D." Quinn, 75, of Magnolia passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Warsaw Health and Rehab after an extended illness. Mr. Quinn was born November 15, 1946 to the late Robert Quinn and Emily Rogers Quinn. Mr. Quinn was a volunteer fireman with the Magnolia Fire Dept. for many years. Mr. Quinn had been Sunday School Superintendent, a deacon, and was now a member of the Magnolia Baptist Church. He enjoyed singing and loved the Christmas Contatas. He and his wife loved to square dance and were members of the Warsaw See Saws of which he had been a past president. Mr. Quinn had also been a member of the North Carolina Folk Round and Square Dance Federation. For the last 15 plus years Mr. Quinn had been known as the "Grill Man" as he used his talents to build many types of pig cookers and other grills. He and his loving wife, Kathy had been married 48 years. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at the Magnolia Baptist Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 1:00pm. Burial will follow the service in the Knowles Family Cemetery in Rose Hill. Mr. Quinn is survived by wife, Kathy E. Quinn of Magnolia, daughter, Christina Atkins and husband, David of Burlington; grandchildren Austin and Brantley Atkins of Burlington; mother-in-law, Annie Ruth Evans of Magnolia; sisters-in-law Carolyn Quinn of Magnolia and Barbara Harris of Beulaville; brother-in-law, Jimmy Hartley and wife, Sandra of Magnolia; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents Mr. Quinn, was preceded in death by brothers, Herbert Lee Quinn, Leonard Wayne Quinn and Robert (Bobbie) Ray Quinn; sisters, Ruth Mozingo, Mable Mann, Emily Estelle Pate and Swannie Mae Hudson; and father-in-law, Clarence Evans. The family would like to express their appreciation for the care and attention given to J D by the staff of both Kenansville Health and Rehabilitation and Warsaw Health and Rehabilitation. Due the rising number of COVID cases, the family request that attendees practice good social distancing and wear a face covering.

Warsaw - John Mark Jones, 59, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Wallace Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Wallace, NC. Mr. Jones was born October 20, 1962 in Onslow, NC to the late Louis Clemeth Jones and Effla Lanier Jones. A memorial service will be held 2:00p.m., Friday, July 29th, 2022 in Community Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Tina Jones; son, Jonathan Jones of Turkey, daughter, Heather Venecia and husband, Johnny of Rose Hill; grandchildren, Wyatt Dunn, Cameron McGaha, Conner McGaha, Keelan Jones, Eli Jones, Breanne Jones, Katalina Venecia, Kaleb Venecia, and Joel Jones. George Malcolm Dail, 72, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Warsaw Health and Rehabiliation in Warsaw, NC. Mac, as most loving called him, was born April 9, 1950 in Duplin County to the late James Riley Dail and Eveline Maready Dail. A memorial service will be held 4:00pm, Monday, July 25, 2022 in Community Funeral Home Chapel. Mac was a great friend to many and to the town of Warsaw. Mac was a local business owner and strong leader within his community. He served his community as member of the Warsaw Fire and Rescue, Warsaw Chamber of Commerce, Best House Committee and the Veteran's Day committee. Mac is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Cindy Sholar Dail; nieces, Lisa Dail Turner, Rita Dail Pasquariello and husband, John, and Sylvia Whaley; nephew, David Whaley and wife, Missy; father-in-law Billy Ray Sholar, brother-in-law, Dewitt Sholar and wife, Alicia; and numerous great nieces and nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Mac was preceded in death by sister, Peggy D. Humphrey; brother, Kenny Gerald Dail; and mother-in-law, Hilda Hardison Sholar. Warsaw - Edward Earl Whaley, 69, passed away early morning Monday, July 18, 2022 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. Whaley was born June 1, 1953 in Duplin County to the late Edward and Louise Herring Whaley. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am, Thursday, July 21 at Community Funeral Home of Warsaw. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow the funeral in Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro, NC. Mr. Whaley is survived by brother, Michael Whaley and wife, Nancy of Warsaw, NC; sisters, Martha Ann Byrd of Warsaw, Annette Sullivan and husband, J W of Mount Olive, NC and Velma Gautier and husband, David of Albertson; several nieces and nephews, Jenny Wynn and husband, TJ, Heather Hobbs and husband, Bryan, Joey Byrd, William Sullivan, Eddie Gautier, James Allen Gautier and wife Alexis, and James Whaley; and eight great nieces and three great nephew. TURKEY, NC - Mrs. Winnifred Ann Hollowell Sloan, 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, June 24, 2022 in her home surrounded by family.
Mrs. Sloan is survived by her sons, Robert (Bobby) and wife Darlene of Buena Vista, VA, Erwin (David) of Magnolia, Norman of Hampstead and Aaron and wife Rosemond of Turkey; as well as, daughter-in-law Cathy Sloan (Ricky) of Kenansville. 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Erwin Gill Sloan; sons, Ricky Gill Sloan and George Franklin Sloan (infant); grandson, Michael Gibson Sloan; parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Norman Hollowell of Mount Olive; sister, Tillie Marie Hollowell McCullen of Dobbersville and brother, Berry Lee Hollowell of Liberty, GA. Warsaw United Methodist Church, 107 West Plank Road, Warsaw, NC 28398 Warsaw - Jenell Bishop Ezzell, 83, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Duke University Hospital in Durham. Mrs. Jenell was born January 27, 1939, in Duplin County, NC to the late John Carl Bishop and Berta Register Bishop. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Linwood Ezzell. Mrs. Jenell is survived by three sons, Darron Ezzell and wife, Bridget of Elizabethtown, NC, Darret Ezzell and wife, Michelle of Wallace, NC, Kent Ezzell of Atlantic Beach, FL; one sister, Doris Brock of Rose Hill, NC; four grandchildren, Blake Ezzell and wife, Berta, Haley Lanier and husband, Jerry, Zachary Ezzell, and Leyton Ezzell; one great grandson, Thomas Lanier; and special friend, Jimmie English and brother-in-law, Johnnie Powell. A visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Warsaw Baptist Church in Powell Hall with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. A private interment service will be held at a later date.
