Magnolia - Miriam Tucker Quinn, 96 passed away peacefully on June 14, 2019 at Harmony Hall in Kinston, NC. Miriam was born on May 20, 1923 to the late Julius and Florence Tucker and was a lifelong resident of Magnolia, NC. She was married to Bertice Quinn for 46 years before his passing in 1994. She is also preceded in death by two of her three brothers, Hubert and Paul Tucker.
A proud homemaker and farmer’s wife, Miriam’s life was centered around the care and well being of her family. Miriam and Bertice worked hard to build their life together while raising four children. Miriam a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother enjoyed cooking and family gatherings. She had a love for gardening, puzzling and watching UNC Tarheels play basketball. Miriam will be remembered for her kind heart, thoughtfulness to others and her delicious southern cooking. She is survived by her four children, Sandra Quinn of Kinston, Elva Quinn of Magnolia, Caron Bailey and husband, Ted of Faison and Errol Quinn and wife, Brett of Magnolia, her seven grandchildren, Caroline Pressly and husband, Robert of Kinston, Seth Quinn and wife, Amber of Magnolia, Carmon Short and husband, Eric of Rose Hill and Zachary Quinn of Magnolia, Jeremy Henderson of Kenansville, Makenzie Acock of Goldsboro and Devon Acock of Magnolia her nine great-grandchildren, Ryder and Piper Cate Pressly of Kinston, Owen Quinn of Magnolia and Quinn and Preston Short of Rose Hill, Bentley Henderson, Brantley Henderson, and Caylee Henderson of Kenansville, and Silas Parker of Goldsboro as well as her brother, Victor Tucker and wife Judy of Warsaw. A special thank you to Harmony Hall and Brian Center caregivers for their compassion, friendship and skilled assistance during Miriam’s illness. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 16, 2019 in Devotional Gardens, Warsaw, NC. The family will greet family and friend following the service at the cemetery. Rev. Ronnie Ezzell will officiate the service. Seth Quinn, Zachary Quinn, Eric Short, Robert Pressly, Ryder Pressly, and Ellis Tucker will serve as pallbearers.

Jacksonville - Shirley Jean Page, 72, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at her home in Jacksonville, NC. Mrs. Page was born April 4, 1947 in Wilmington, NC to Ervin David Howell and Emma Fales Howell.
A service will be held 2:00 pm, Monday, June 17, 2019 at Tar Landing Baptist Church, Jacksonville, NC. Burial will follow the service in Onslow Memorial Park. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Mrs. Page is survived by son, Daniel Wade Mitchell and wife, Amanda of Grantham, NC; daughter, Shirley Denise Jarvis of Jacksonville, NC; half sister, Jamie Marie Altizer and husband, Charles, Orange Park, FL; four grandchildren, Jessica Walker, Mary E. Walker, Johnathon Taylor Mitchell, and Jessica Wallace; two great grandchildren, Jamie N. Walker and Max T. Walker and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Page was preceded in death by husband, James Merritt Page. Rose Hill - Alvin Harold Bass, 65, of Jacksonville and Rose Hill passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Mr. Bass was born November 14, 1953 in Duplin County to Alvin Joe Bass and Edna Mathis Bass.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am Friday, June 7, 2019 at Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church in Rose Hill. A visitation will follow the service. Mr. Bass is survived by son, Christopher Bass; daughter- in- law, Crystal Norris; parents, Alvin Joe Bass and Edna M. Bass; special friend, Pam Sanderson Merritt; brother, Gary Bass, grandchildren, Parker Sandlin, Zachary Brinson, Alexis Blanchard, Dominick Bass and Jordan Bass. Mr. Bass was preceded in death by wife, Juanita B. Bass. |
