John William Gibson Sr of Rose Hill NC, formerly of Raleigh NC passed away peacefully after a brief illness on May 12,2022 at Rex Hospital.

​John Gibson Sr leaves behind his wife Miriam E Gibson, daughters Kimberly Gibson and Claudia Gibson, sons Blake Gibson and John Gibson Jr., eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. John Gibson Sr. was born on 08/22/1927 to Claude William Gibson & Grace Alma Blake in Milford Delaware. John Gibson graduated early from high school and served in both the Army & Navy during and after World War II . After his honorable discharge from the Army, he continued his education and worked in family business in the Del-Marva area.
While attending Wesley college in Dover Delaware in the early 1950’s he met his wife, Miriam E Kennedy. While residing in Dover Delaware he became a State Farm Insurance agent and was later promoted to District Manager for State Farm and then moved to Durham NC in 1961. John returned to sales with State Farm in 1977 where he had an agency in Raleigh NC. John attended Mt Olivet Church and later Hope Community Church. John retired from State Farm in 1995 and later started a new business in the Home Health Care provider service for the disabled and mentally handicapped. John later sold this business, his home in Raleigh in 2021 and moved to Rose Hill NC to a property where he could enjoy the countryside with his wife, son John Jr and daughter Kimberly. A private service will be held for family and closest friends. A future announcement will be made with regards to a Celebration of Life service for those who would like to attend. Katherine Smith Thomas, 90, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2022 surrounded by family.  Mrs. Thomas was born June 10, 1931 to the late Yancey Smith and Addie Mae Guy Smith. 

A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2022 in Community Funeral Home Chapel with entombment to follow in Devotional Gardens Mausoleum.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by two sons, Steve Lewis Thomas and wife, Susan of Holly Springs, NC and Bonnie Gregory Thomas and wife, Cris of Statesboro, GA and daughter, Sandra Mae Lewis and husband, Bobby of Four Oaks, NC. 

​In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Bonnie Faison Thomas and sister, Brenda Lewis Smith.
