Goldie Powell

Goldie Mathis Powell was born in Duplin County, NC on October 27, 1936 to Archie Louis and Alice Ezzell Mathis. She entered her heavenly home on November 8, 2022, surrounded by the love of her family. 

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Community Funeral Home in Rose Hill. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., in the funeral home chapel and burial will conclude the service in Devotional Gardens, Warsaw, NC.

Mrs. Powell is survived by her daughter, Janet Little (Ken), granddaughter, Melissa Peduzzi (Ryan), great-grandsons Hudson and Judah Peduzzi, sister Patricia Byerly (Paul), and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leslie Odell Powell, brothers Archie Wells Mathis and I.J. Mathis (Alice), sisters Edna Bass (Joe), Norma Croom, Evelyn Ennis (Tom), Catherine Hines, Minnie Johnson (Stanley), and Esther Parkhurst (Bill). 

Mrs. Powell loved her family, and delighted in spending the past five years so close to her great-grandsons, where she was “Mamaw.” In addition to being devoted to her family, she was a great seamstress and crocheted many amazing creations. She loved to tease those she loved and enjoyed laughing with them. She always had a story to tell and loved being connected to her family near and far.

She’d tell you “the Lord’s been good to me” by blessing her with all her family and the many memories they share, and especially now as she rejoices in her heavenly home.
