![]() Betty Crumpler Long, 78, of 124 Bowden Drive, Kenansville, North Carolina, passed away at New Hanover Regional Medical Center on Friday, February 9, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Micajah Jacob Crumpler and Rovina Huddler Crumpler. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Elbert Long. Mrs. Long leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Tina Long Clark, her son-in-law, John Litton Clark, and the apples of her eyes, Abbigail and John Litton Clark Jr., her grandchildren. Her sisters are Frances Knowles of Kenansville and Renee Carlton of Warsaw. Her brother is Jimmy Crumpler of Warsaw, and his wife is Rachel Crumpler. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was a long time resident of Kenansville, where she spent 41 years in public service. She enjoyed every minute of it. 15 of those years, she served as the mayor of Kenansville. She worked 22 years in the Duplin County school system making differences in the many different little lives. She also played a big part at DanceWorks of Duplin, helping in every aspect. She was a member of the Kenansville Methodist Church, and she was very active in her church as well as her community. She loved to stay on the go, especially if it involved her daughter and grandkids. She loved White Lake, and she called it her second home. She was known to many as “Mimi”, and she loved it! She was one of a kind, and she was a true blessing to everyone she met. A visitation will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 12, at Community Funeral Home in Warsaw, North Carolina. The funeral will follow at 2:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at Golden Grove Cemetery in Kenansville, North Carolina, following the funeral. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be mailed to the Lake Church, 1930 White Lake Drive, White Lake, North Carolina 28337.

I had the pleasure of working with Mayor Long in 2014 as the Interim Manager of Kenansville. I found her to be a caring, warm, and dedicated person. She enjoyed her job as mayor, and really cared for the employees of the town. My condolences to her family and friends.
