Vernell “Nell” Carter Casteen

Vernell “Nell” Carter Casteen, 82, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2025 at Wayne UNC Hospital in Goldsboro, NC.  Mrs. Casteen was born October 10, 1943 to the late Charlie Carter and Pearl Daniels Carter.

Mrs. Casteen is survived by son, Charles Allen Casteen and wife, Lisa of Warsaw; daughters, Crystal Pullen and husband, Kirk of Mount Olive, NC and Carol Barwick of Kinston; seven grandchildren, Gaige, Trey, Tessa, Max, Isabelle, Kristen and Steve and eight great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Casteen was preceded in death by husband, James Casteen; brothers, Edward, Elwood, Lynwood, and C. H. Carter and sisters, Betty Inez Lane, Vivian Grey Carter, Edna Bell Murphy, and Gladys Watkins.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Faison Baptist Church.​

Nell was a member of the Faison Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Faison Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 280, Faison, NC 28341.
