George McDonald "Mac" Johnson Jr. of Warsaw, North Carolina, passed away on Monday August 31, 2026. Mac was born to the late George and Sue Johnson and raised in Warsaw on the family farm, where his love of the land and the outdoors began. He graduated from James Kenan High School and attended East Carolina University, earning a degree in Physical Education and proudly becoming a Pirate. Mac loved football and spent many years coaching before returning to the family farm and working alongside his wife Dean and his 4 children in the turkey business with Carrolls Foods. He was happiest outdoors, working with his cows, riding the fences, fixing tractors, tinkering with old cars, and taking on whatever project caught his attention. He was especially proud of the pond he spent years digging himself. Mac was a true character who lived life on his own terms. He made friends wherever he went and always had a story to tell. He enjoyed a cold beer after a hard day's work, a game of pool with friends, country music, fireworks on the Fourth of July, and time spent at the beach and on the water. One of Mac's greatest passions was the Ford Mustang. He shared that love with his four children, Don, Charlotte, Michael, and Barbara, and made sure each of them grew up with a Mustang of their own. Those cars became a special part of their childhood and a lasting connection they will always share with him. Mac's life had its share of challenges, but he leaves behind a family shaped by his strength, determination, independence, and resilience. He is survived by his children, George McDonald "Don" Johnson, III (Lori) of Garner, Charlotte Johnson Bradshaw of Kenansville, Michael Wade Johnson (Susan) and Barbara Johnson McGee (Keith) all of Warsaw along with 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and one sister, Nina Johnson Carter of Surf City, NC, his long time friend Melanie Register of Wilmington and many friends who will remember him as a one-of-a-kind man. A graveside service will be held 11:00 am, Friday, September 4, 2026 in Pinecrest Cemetery, Warsaw NC. A visitation will be held 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Thursday, September 3, 2026 at the home of Barbara and Keith McGee, 524 E. College Street Warsaw, NC 28398. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Warsaw Fire Department, In memory of Mac Johnson, P. O. Box 483, Warsaw, NC 28398.
